August 22nd was the first day of school and Castro Elementary had a very successful first week. We would like to thank students, staff and parents for helping to do their part in ensuring student safety and following new procedures.

HEB representatives recently visited Castro Elementary to deliver care packages to staff on the first week of school. Castro staff send out a sincere thank you to HEB!

Castro students are required wear the designated school uniform. For the 2016-2017 school year, students will wear the royal blue Castro t-shirt with jeans on Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, students will continue to wear the designated gray district t-shirt. Please ensure that shirts are tucked in and jeans are not ripped in accordance with the Student Dress Code/Code of Conduct.

School shirts can either be purchased at MCM located at 1302 N Conway Ave or at VALLEY SPORTS located at 1108 N. Conway Ave.

Castro Elementary students and parents participated in the Texas Reads One Book program held on April 11th at 9:00 am. The book chosen this year was Charlotte's Web. We are thankful to our parents who showed up and participated and encourage every parent to read to your children daily.

Castro's flag football team competed this past weekend in a tournament held at Veterans Memorial High School. We thank and congratulate all our students who practiced hard and participated.

Parents of returning students will be able to register their children for the next school year through the parent portal

Recently the students of Castro Elementary celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by participating in Read Across America-Week on February 29th through March 4th.

We want to thank and congratulate our Bluebonnet team for reading and studying hard in order to prepare for the competition. Their hard work and efforts are appreciated! We also thank our parents for taking time to drive their kids to the competition and supporting our team.

In an effort to raise money for Jump Rope for Heart, Coach Guerra organized a Pie in the face contest. Nurse April, Campus Tech Mr. Gomez, and music teacher Mr. Plata were the intended targets. The top three students to raise funds we chosen to do the honors and any students who raised funds were able to attend and view the event. Castro thanks everyone who donated to the cause. Top three students were Joaquin Ruiz, Nico Juarez and Briana Perez.
