CASTRO STUDENTS HONOR AND CELEBRATE 16 DE SEPTIEMBRE

The significance of 16 de Septiembre is the day that Mexico won its independence from Spain. Every year on this day the President of Mexico stands on the balcony of the National Palace to address his people with the famous Grito de Dolores. He shouts Vivas! to the leaders of the Mexican Revolution and ends with a cheer echoed three times by the mass crowds that have gathered: “Viva México!” There are various celebrations throughout the country that follow. Perhaps most importantly, it reminds the people of the history of their nation and those that fought and died so that Mexico could be free.
