During the month of December, student council took up a collection of new, unwrapped toys to be donated to the Mission Police Department.

The girls volleyball team at Castro Elementary recently went toe-to-toe with staff members and came out victorious for the first game. Students who donated for the canned food drive were able to watch on the sidelines and cheer thier favorite team on.

Students at Castro Elementary and student council members recently gathered together to collect cans which were donated to the Mission Food Pantry which will help local families in need. Thank you to all who donated.

MCISD's Early Childhood/PPCD units recently had a banquet to celebrate uniqueness. Parents were guest speakers and discussed strategies and personal anecdotes for coping and to motivate each other in order to create a strong support system. Thank you to all who were in attendance.

Students in Early Childhood/SpEd and Pre-K were surprised when Santa paid them a visit.

Earlier this week, 3rd and 5th grade students visited the National Butterfly Center to learn about the importance of natural wildlife to our ecosystem.

On Veterans Day, Captain Joaquin Castro Elementary honors all service members of the Armed Forces and the sacrifices they made to keep our country free. Today we recognize our heroes, remember their achievements, their courage and their dedication, and say thank you for their sacrifices.

With the upcoming election right around the corner, Castro Elementary students participated in a mock election to get insight on the voting process. Results from that election showed Hillary Clinton as the next president with 223 votes.

Recently 4th grade teachers invited parents to curriculum night to discuss important issues such as upcoming STAAR exams. 4th grade choir students also performed.

October 19 has been designated as National Unity Day for Bullying Prevention, and in observance, students and staff wore orange. This was a day where everyone could come together – in schools, communities, and online – to send one large ORANGE message of support, hope, and unity to show that we are together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
