In honor of Red Ribbon Week our Castro Elementary Student Council will be holding their first fundraiser. This event will run from October 17-20th. There will be 4 jars with participants names and pictures. The jar with the most votes will be the lucky "winner". The winner will have to paint their hair red in honor of Red Ribbon Week. Each vote will cost $1.00. Students who cast a vote will receive access to enter our Red Ribbon Week Kickoff Pep Rally on October 21, 2016.

Castro Elementary will be hosting their annual fall festival on Thursday October 20, 2016 from 4:30-6:30pm. Tickets will be sold starting October 18. Tickets can be bought before class and after school in the front office.

On Thursday October 13, the Castro volleyball team competed in the East Side Volleyball tournament held at Veterans Memorial High School. Working as a team, the girls were able to secure 3rd place. Congratulations to Coach Guerra and the team!

For the whole month of October, we will be accepting entries for our annual pumpkin decorating contest. Please see the attached flyer for rules and rewards.

We are thrilled to be supporting the American Heart Association to help our students and families take care of their heart through the Jump Rope for Heart program.

Peter Piper Pizza representatives visited 3rd grade Castro students to donate dictionaries. 3rd grade students will take the STAAR test for the first time and the dictionaries will be used as a resource to aid in their success. Thank you to Kirk Robertson for the donation.

5th grade students at Castro Elementary had the opportunity to run for Student Council officer positions recently. Any student interested in running for a position was required to make posters/flyers and give a brief speech. The 5th grade class voted for their choices for President, Vice President, Secretary and Historian. Thank you to all those students who participated and did a job well done! Results are as follows: President-Dorian Pruneda, Vice President-Alexis Anguiano, Secretary-Kaitlyn Richardson, Historian-Kendra Rosales

In honor of Mexican Independence day, students and staff were encouraged to dress up and recognize this annual Mexican tradition.

Castro Elementary students received a considerable donation in the form of school supplies and backpacks from El Mesias United Methodist Church. We are truly grateful and appreciative of the support that the church has kindly given every year.
